This page was last edited on 19 Decemberat It was gripping in that it held me through the whole book and it was hard to stop reading. In the end surplus population was sent to Africa. Such writing could be dismissed as a mere fiction, but when compared to the writing rwales his survival blog, it is easy to conclude that these are in fact, Rawles’ prescription for an improved United States. The author really pushed religion down you throat in the beginning during the setup.
Some of the expansions seem so naturally blended that they unfairly do not stand out as new material. Did no one who read this prior to its publication have a problem with all the small sub-chapter segments following no consistent timeline?
They abridged the book to 31 chapters and re-titled it Patriots: Speaking from his experience, Rawles cautions that rural self-sufficiency actually involves “a lot of hard work”.
Unlike the handful of fringe proponents, Rawles focuses instead on family preparedness and personal freedom. Rawles is totally believable because he has done his research regarding economics, monetary policy, and environmental trends. The stories from the precedent finish. All this being said, I have a great deal of respect for Rawles effort in writing these books and attempting to educate through entertainment; the underlying thesis is wesle, it just gets a wee bit preachy around religion, but to the rawless goes the spoils, he gets to tell his story however HE wants, and I can take away what I want as the reader, fair trade.
Rawles is an proponent of family preparedness, especially regarding food storage  and advocates relocating to lightly populated rural ” retreat ” areas. Patriots was a great book I’d recommend, Survivors took that formula ran with it but ruined it to a degree with the insertion of numerous Christianity references.

So having said that why did I give this one three stars? Once I would finally become interested in a group or character, it was time to start over After running across a stack of this novel freshly laid out at BAM, I figured why not.
I’m pretty sure at least one chapter was lifted wholesale from Survivors the tale of the couple getting out of urban meltdown in Chicago word for word, and that just struck me as lame. This one focuses on the travel of Ken and Terry Layton from Illinois to Chicago members of the Retreat focused on in Patriotsprimarily on foot. Um, this story tells the story of individuals who founded a safe haven after the economic collapse.
