Luckily, Lewis is not the typical orphan suffering under the rule of cruel-hearted adults. He's surrounded by compassionate grown ups who genuinely want to foster his brilliance -- from the orphanage's director Angela Bassett to his encouraging science teacher, and of course, the Robinsons, who all believe that mistakes and failures only make you better.

Can you think of a time that you didn't win but you still learned something useful? And, for fun, since Lewis is an aspiring inventor, name some inventions that you think would be useful in the future.
How are orphans depicted in the movie? Does the movie make kids who aren't adopted seem sad and lonely? Do you think that's how orphans must feel? Didn't bother me, though Most importantly, this film does not contain a single fart joke nor any talking animals or even animal sidekicks except for those singing frogs you might have seen in the trailers, but they're really not the same thing.
Meet the Robinsons Game Review
I don't know how close this adaptation is to William Joyce's novel "A Day With Wilbur Robinson", as I've never read anything Joyce has written, but it all works pretty well and manages to be an exiting and entertaining family adventure movie. One aspect of the movie that works particularly well is the design. The buildings, machines and landscapes of the future really look totally cool and have a very own look that is inspired by Joyce's illustrations and various visions of the future from the 50ies and 60ies.
They're beautifully rendered, too.

Furthermore, the animation is pretty awesome. The movements of the quirky characters are very fast but funny and cleverly stylized. The best example for this is the Bowler Hat Guy who moves in a unique style that makes him look like a giant Spider.
About his mom, Wilbur says he was "ratted out by the old lady. Any of the film's scenes may come off as more intense if seen in 3-D.
We see a flying bowler hat that then has metal, crab-like legs come out from the bottom that might be unsettling or scary for younger viewers, especially as the hat -- "Doris" -- sabotages Lewis' invention. Wilbur moves Lewis toward the edge of a building on the roof and then shoves him off, and Lewis falls but lands on something invisible in midair.
It turns out to be a time machine flying saucer. The steering wheel on Wilbur's time machine flying saucer pulls out, causing the ship to go out of control and then crash-land in some dirt, but Wilbur and Lewis inside it are okay. Doris the hat tries to cut a chandelier to fall on others, but is interrupted. A suddenly animated and full-size T-Rex topiary charges at and crashes through a window, trying to get Lewis.
During this attack, one family member sends a train into the dinosaur, the family octopus-type creature battles it, the T-Rex is tripped, and a huge amount of pizza dough covers it.

But it escapes and knocks others around, and grabs a flying saucer and pulls some of it apart. It then chases Lewis into a corner, but its big head and small arms prevent it from getting him.
It then chases and tries to eat Wilbur, but Lewis saves his friend in the dinosaur's mouth. As the time continuum changes, Wilbur is sucked away in a vapor.
We see an altered future where the bowler hats have taken over and several of them attack Bowler Hat Guy just off camera.
